Some young landscapers were born with green thumbs, others found theirs later in life.
That’s true of Second Nature Senior Landscaper Ryan Harris, who stumbled into landscaping as the world emerged from the Covid pandemic.
With a Level 5 certificate in Accounting, Ryan thought his life was going in one direction – before landscaping caused a complete pivot.
“I quickly fell in love with the industry and grew a deep passion for it. I’m constantly trying to improve my depth of knowledge in both hardscaping and softscaping. I have a fine eye for detail and a desire to achieve the best possible result from my work.”
He says he’s entered the 2024 Prebbles Young Landscaper of the Year competition to put his best foot forward – and to show the quality of the education he’s received while working for Second Nature.
“I would love to showcase the skills and abilities that I have picked up from the knowledgeable seniors within Second Nature and showcase the level of workmanship we implement.”
Eugene Anderson, Second Nature Construction Manager, says Ryan took to landscaping like a duck to water – and will make an excellent competitor!
“Ryan has been employed with Second Nature since March 2021 and has progressed quickly, completing his Level 4 New Zealand Certificate in Horticulture - Landscape Construction in near-record time.
“He has worked on many projects that have been complex and challenging, covering every aspect of landscape construction. Because of Ryan’s work ethic and easy going nature, he quickly earned the respect of our most skilled and experienced staff, who have invested time passing on their knowledge – which he has picked up, run with and retained.”
