Kristen Gill is a site foreman for Sculptural Landscapes’ and is in the final year of her apprenticeship. She says she entered the competition to improve her skills and better represent women in landscaping.
“I decided that entering Young Landscaper of the Year would be a great opportunity to put my skills to the test and learn a few things in the process.
“I really enjoy my job and, as a woman, I feel as though we are underrepresented in the trades –particularly in landscaping.
“It would be great to be able to do something that can inspire other young women to get into a really rewarding and exciting industry.”
Kristen, who has worked for Sculptural Landscapes for three years and has risen through the ranks, believes she has a well-rounded appreciation of the industry.
“I have been taught all aspects of landscaping, starting with more softscaping and then adding experience in timber work, concrete and paving.”
Kirsten’s tasks currently include running small teams of two or three on residential sites. Sculptural Landscapes director Jon Russell says her ability is a great testament to her work ethic and attitude.
“Onsite she is very organised and likes to try to figure out the most efficient way to do something. She gets along well with all the team and we’ve had many positive comments from clients about her work ethic and general ease to deal with.”
