Sustainability in landscaping includes choosing materials with lower environmental impact and longer-lasting form and function.
Creating materials that last has always been a driving force for Interlink. Founded in 2009 by Matthew Kennedy, Interlink was created to provide customers with access to natural, durable landscape materials that were often hard to find through normal supply channels.
From its base in Wanaka, Interlink has grown into a nationwide supplier of reclaimed hardwoods, rustic beams and railway sleepers for residential, commercial, public and architectural landscape projects.
Good landscapers know that material choice matters. A product that looks right on day one but fails early creates more cost, more waste, more work and damaged reputations.
A PRACTICAL SOLUTION
Old railway sleepers, wharf timbers, bridge beams and rustic hardwoods have already proven their toughness. Many have spent years in demanding conditions before being recovered and redirected into a new use.
Rather than letting that value go to waste, these materials can be given another life in retaining, edging, garden structures, public spaces, outdoor furniture, feature walls and natural landscape settings.
EASY SUSTAINABILITY WIN
For landscapers, this is sustainability with rolled up sleeves. It’s not complicated. Use what already exists. Choose materials with strength and character. Build spaces that can handle real conditions. Save useful timber from waste. Reclaimed timber also adds texture and authenticity that new materials often cannot match.
Interlink’s role is to source, sort and supply these materials in reliable volumes. With storage and transport throughout New Zealand, Interlink can support landscapers, contractors, designers and retailers working on everything from private gardens through to larger commercial and civic projects.
The next stage of sustainable landscaping will not be built on slogans. It is about better decisions repeated consistently – designing for durability, reducing avoidable waste, selecting materials with a longer life, and building businesses that can support responsible supply into the future.
