In the world of landscaping, where durability meets design, Future Post is making

waves by turning New Zealand’s plastic waste into robust, eco-friendly fencing

solutions

Founded by fencer and farmer Jerome Wenzlick, the company was born from a practical challenge: traditional wooden fence posts breaking upon encountering buried plastic waste.

This obstacle sparked an innovative solution – repurposing plastic waste into sturdy fence posts, simultaneously addressing environmental concerns and agricultural needs.

Each Future Post is crafted from 100% recycled waste plastic, collected through partnerships

and initiatives such as the Soft Plastic Recycling Scheme, which has more than 220 drop-off points nationwide. Future Post recycles up to 4,500 tonnes of waste plastic annually, roughly equivalent to approximately 100 million milk bottles or 672 million plastic bags, significantly reducing landfill contributions.

Like timber... but better

Designed with both performance and sustainability in mind, Future Posts offer numerous advantages over traditional timber posts. They will not rot, split, or crack, and are impervious to water, frost, insects and fungi.

Their non-conductive nature eliminates the need for insulators in electric fencing and their UV-stabilised composition ensures a lifespan exceeding 50 years. Moreover, these posts are free from copper, chromium, and arsenic (CCA), making them suitable for organic farming, garden beds and reducing environmental contamination risks.

The versatility of Future Posts extends across various sectors, including agriculture, viticulture,

horticulture, equine, marine and lifestyle applications. Their consistent size and strength make them ideal for diverse fencing needs, from securing livestock to supporting vineyard trellises. Additionally, their aesthetic appeal and low maintenance requirements make them a preferred choice for landscaping projects.

Beyond product innovation, Future Post exemplifies a circular economy model. Its fence posts are not only made from recycled materials but are also recyclable at the end of their use, ensuring a continuous loop of sustainability. This approach aligns with global efforts to reduce plastic waste and promotes responsible resource management.

For landscapers and environmental stewards, Future Post offers a practical solution that marries functionality with ecological responsibility. By choosing these recycled plastic fence posts, professionals can contribute to a more sustainable future, demonstrating that effective design and environmental consciousness can go hand in hand.

In the heart of Marlborough’s wine country, Repost is tackling a big environmental challenge. Now, through a growing partnership with Mitre 10, its impact is spreading across the country

Each year, the viticulture industry breaks hundreds of thousands of CCA-treated posts. Due to their arsenic content, they can’t be safely burned or recycled like standard timber, leaving landfill as the only option. These posts, once destined for landfill, burning, or long term stockpiles, are now being put to good use thanks to Repost, which gives them a second life as sustainable farm fencing.

Founded by Greg and Dansy Coppell on their sheep and beef farm in St Arnaud five years ago, Repost began as a necessity. Faced with 30km of fencing and a tight budget, Greg started repurposing broken vineyard posts from nearby Marlborough vineyards. With a homemade hydraulic nail puller and plenty of grit, he cleaned up and reused the timber – and soon neighbours and farming friends were asking for the repurposed posts too.

What began as a local solution is now a national operation, turning vineyard waste into durable, seasoned, H4-treated fence posts. These posts are independently tested and meet H4 industry standards. Additionally, they are lightweight and affordable, making them ideal for farmers, lifestylers, gardeners and fencing contractors alike.

Available nationwide

Repost’s half and quarter rounds, available in 1.6m and 1.8m lengths, either pointed or unpointed, are now stocked through select Mitre 10 stores and online, making sustainable fencing materials easier to access than ever before.

This collaboration aligns with Mitre 10’s sustainability Commitments, including:

• Supporting the circular economy.

• Reducing waste to landfill.

• Partnering with sustainable suppliers.

• Empowering customers to make environmentally responsible choices.

Repost’s impact speaks for itself. It is now on-track to surpass one million posts reused and sold by the end of this year, helping to lower emissions through local sourcing, portable

processing and regional distribution and enabling strong cross sector partnerships between wineries and farmers, which helps to close the loop on waste.

By stocking Repost products, Mitre 10 is helping to drive meaningful change on the land – without compromising on price or performance.

“This is about practical impact,” says Dansy. “It’s about using what we already have – the way our grandparents did – where nothing was wasted, and everything had a second use. Less waste, more fencing, and smarter, hands-on solutions that respect the land.”
