Landscape awards back on track

Keen to set yourself apart from the crowd? The Landscapes of Distinction and the Young Landscaper of the Year awards were delayed due to the impacts of Covid-19. But with official constraints no longer limiting landscaping work, it’s time to get your head in the game

Recognising outstanding performance in landscaping practice, the annual Landscapes of Distinction Awards are the highest accolade of professional recognition in the industry. With the awards originally scheduled for August, the deadlines and ceremony have been amended to accommodate the impacts of Covid.

The Landscapes of Distinction entry deadline is now 30 November, with the early bird deadline on 30 September. The People’ s Choice Voting opens on 15 January, and the much-anticipated gala dinner awards ceremony is locked in for 13 March 2021 at Rydges Latimer Hotel in Christchurch.

The Young Landscaper of the Year competition, created by Register Master Landscapers (RML) in association with Prebbles Turf World, offers opportunities for the best young talent in the industry to put their skills to the test. Entries open on 1 August, with entry forms available.

The Young Landscaper of the Year Award will also take place in March to coincide with the Landscapes of Distinction Awards Dinner. The competition will be held on 12 March – the day prior to the gala dinner and awards ceremony.

For many previous winners, the award stands as a defining moment in their young careers, putting them in a position to learn more and take the next step in their team and the wider industry.

Why enter?

According to previous winners, the awards provide excellent marketing for winning businesses and any landscaper who competes. As Natural Habitats Graham Rake puts it: “Even just by competing, companies are confirming that they are proud enough of their work to put it forward for consideration. That in itself is testament to quality workmanship.”

With Covid-19 having put a big question mark over the financial performance of many businesses this year, now is the time to draw the attention of potential clients to your business and the quality of work you and your staff can produce for them. The marketing and sales benefits that come with entering, let alone winning these awards, are now more highly valuable than ever.

So, support the association and your industry by taking part in and attending these events – it’s a great opportunity to come together, celebrate the best of the best

and enjoy the company of your industry peers after a challenging year!
