Decking @ PlaceMakers

Decking sales have skyrocketed since Covid-19 hit, with many consumers choosing to spend their holiday money upgrading their landscaping options

When you look through the PlaceMakers Landscaping Catalogue 2021, you’ll see there’s much more on offer than just pine decking – there’s more options than ever! While these are more expensive than merch or premium pine, they offer many additional benefits for your customers, some of which they may not be aware of. Read on so you can let them know!

Shadowdeck Kwila

After 11 years of successful installations using New Zealand's only BRANZ-appraised hidden deck fastener, the ShadowDeck system creates a clean, nail-free finish every time.

Using the hidden deck fastener system means no unsightly nails or screws, no need to pre-drill and countersink any screws, and no nail pop-ups or splitting of timber over time.

Shadow Dome Decking timber is 100% FSC (Forest Stewardship Council)-certified, comes with a slight dome profile on the top side of the boards to aid water shedding, is pre-grooved on the edges to make it easier to install with the hidden deck fastener, is pre-oiled on all sides before it arrives on-site to keep the timber from cupping, and has minimal contraction and expansion.

The result is a smarter-looking and longer-lasting deck, which can stand the test of time and is well proven in New Zealand’s harsh UV conditions.

Vulcan Thermally Modified Timber

Abodo’s Vulcan Decking is created from thermally modified New Zealand plantation timber, then treated with an organic preservative system that includes a water repellent for superior durability. The thermal modification process means Vulcan Decking has enhanced stability, reduced resin content and is a beautiful homogeneous brown colour which will silver off or can be stained on site.

Perfect for hot, exposed conditions, Vulcan Decking is designed with lifetime beauty in mind, even in harsh coastal applications.

Note: Vulcan Decking boards are designed to be installed grip tread up.

Accoya Modified Pine

Accoya Decking uses the world's leading technology for wood modification – acetylation. It is a non-toxic, cellular modification process resulting in durable, stable and non-toxic decking with performance characteristics that PlaceMakers say is better than any hardwood. Radiata Pine is sourced from sustainably managed forests in New Zealand to compliment the environmental ethos of the product. Stringent quality control measures throughout production ensures consistent performance when installed in the New Zealand environment.

Accoya Decking is 140x19mm and available in two surface finishes – dressed smooth or band sawn face. The band sawn face improves slip performance for public spaces. Accoya decking can be either stained or left to weather naturally.

Keydeck Quartersawn Pine

KeyDeck is a stunning, natural timber decking produced from sustainably managed New Zealand forests, and enhanced using the triple technologies of: quartersawing for stability and superior performance, new generation wood protection with guaranteed product durability and a patented oil and colour impregnation process. This patented infusion coating process enables a blend of protective oils and colour pigments to be infused into the wood, and the coating can be easily reapplied or left to weather naturally. It is chrome and arsenic-free, barefoot-friendly and available in three colours (Antique Grey, Natural Amber and Highland Copper) and three sizes (90x21, 90x32 and 110x21).

BiForm Solid Composite Decking

BiForm is an eco-friendly and durable alternative to traditional hardwood decking and is the only BRANZ-appraised decking in New Zealand. It has an R11 slip resistance which is suitable for main entry ways and ramps and has been formulated specifically for New Zealand’s high UV conditions.

The 4.85m boards are made from 60% waste timber and 30% recycled HDPE plastic and are family friendly – they do not contain formaldehyde or any harmful timber treatments and come with a 25-year warranty. Outdure

Outdure makes it easy to create outdoor living and entertaining spaces that are low maintenance, stylish, and extremely durable. ResortDeck with UltraShield is a high-performance, recycled composite board and fascia range that looks like hardwood timber decking but requires no staining or painting, is splinter and nail-free, and capped for moisture and UV-resistance.

ResortDeck can be installed on a traditional timber sub-frame or, for a fast, straight, level solution that doesn’t rot, use Outdure’s QwickBuild exterior flooring system. QwickBuild is comprised of Global Green Tag-certified aluminium framing and components and patented hidden fastenings to support decking, tiles, and turf.

QwickBuild comes in a range of joist-bearer profiles to suit all deck projects and heights, from ultra-low to raised decks.
